The Frank L. Melega Art Museum is an equal opportunity provider.
The rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the attendees at the 2016 National Road Festival Juried Art Exhibition opening reception. The museum was packed for the awards ceremony officiated by Frank R. Melega and director Patrick Daugherty. Four awards were presented: three Jurors Awards and Best of Show. Artworks in the exhibition include a wide range of styles from Abstract to Realism, plus many different media were represented. This great variety reflects the artworks in the permanent collection by Frank L. Melega.
This years Jurors are Robert Qualters and Laurie Longenecker.
Mr. Qualters is known for his vibrant, color-saturated paintings and murals depicting Pittsburgh's neighborhoods, bridges, and industry, as well as self-portraits. 2014 Pennsylvania Artist of the Year, 1986 Pittsburgh Center for the Arts’ Artist of the Year, the subject of films and books, in major museum and corporate collections. qualtersart.com

Best of Show was awarded to Steve Gluz for his oil painting “Out of This Furnace”. The title comes from the title of the 1941 Thomas Bell novel. The book tells the story of three generations of an immigrant Slovak family.
People’s Choice Award was Mary Elaine Lozosky’s oil portrait “John L. Lewis:. A familiar subject to generations of area residents.
